Beautiful draperies deserve hardware to match. The rod, the finials at each end, the rings and brackets are the first thing the eye finds at a window, and the part you touch every time you open and close the panels. Store-bought rods come in a few lengths and a handful of finishes. Designer drapery hardware is ordered for your window, in the finish and diameter that suit your room, and it is built to carry the weight of lined, full panels for years.
At Capistrano Upholstery and Draperies we supply and install decorative drapery hardware from leading designer collections, and we sew the draperies to fit it. We measure, supply and install designer hardware for homes in Dana Point, San Clemente, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel and Seal Beach, and across Orange County, from our workroom in San Juan Capistrano.
The hardware we offer
Hand-crafted and custom hardware. For homes where nothing standard will do: finials, rods and brackets made by artisans, including one-of-a-kind designs and custom bends for curved bays, unusual windows and difficult floor plans.
Designer metal collections. Rods in aluminum, brass and steel, from layered antiqued finishes with traditional finials to clean modern silhouettes, in more than one pole size, designed to mix and match.
Wood hardware. Classic wood finials in furniture-quality finishes that coordinate with floors, cabinetry and millwork, including wood traverse systems.
Smart-home traverse rods. Rods that carry the panels on hidden carriers and can be motorized to work with home-automation systems.
Complete sets. Rod, finials, rings and brackets ordered together, a polished choice when you want quality and good value.
Roller shades to layer underneath. Several of our hardware lines also offer roller shades, which pair well with draperies on the same window.
Decorative rod or traverse rod?
A decorative rod is a pole with rings. The panels slide by hand, and the rod and finials are part of the design. It suits bedrooms, living rooms and any window you open once in the morning and close at night.
A traverse rod carries the panels on hidden carriers, so they glide open and closed with a wand, a cord or a motor, and the fabric never catches on a bracket. It is the better choice for wide sliding doors, tall windows and heavy lined draperies. Many of our collections include traverse rods that look like decorative poles, so you do not have to give up the finials. Many can also be motorized; see our motorized and smart shades.
Choosing finish, size and placement
- Finish. Match the hardware to something already in the room: door hardware, light fixtures or a fireplace surround. Antiqued brass and bronze warm a traditional room; matte black and nickel suit modern and coastal homes; wood ties in with floors and cabinetry.
- Diameter. Larger poles look right on tall windows and with heavy fabrics. Slimmer poles keep a smaller window or a light sheer from looking overdressed.
- Height and width. Mounting the rod higher than the window frame and extending it past the glass makes a window look taller and wider and lets the panels stack clear of the view when they are open.
- Bay and corner windows. Curved and angled windows need hardware bent or jointed to fit. Custom bends are available, and we measure for them on site.
Coastal homes, coastal light
Homes near the water ask a little more of their hardware. Salt air is hard on some finishes, and wide sliding doors and tall windows facing the ocean need rods that carry long, heavy panels without bending. We help you choose finishes and rod sizes suited to the coast, whether it is a harbor-view home in Dana Point, a beach cottage in San Clemente or Seal Beach, a waterfront home in Newport Beach, or a hillside home in Laguna Niguel with wide views to frame.
Measured, made and installed by one team
We measure each window at your home, help you choose the hardware and the fabric together, sew the draperies in our San Juan Capistrano workroom to the exact length the hardware calls for, and install everything ourselves. Because one team handles all of it, the panels hang at the right height, clear the floor exactly as planned, and open the way they should.
